Well here I am sat at the computer, apparently I need to write a blog, to make us more popular. Thought I was popular enough already, but according to the techie side of the team apparently I am not. I have to write a blog about our instructor internship. I tried to tell the techie about how good our instructor internship program is, but apparently I have to put it into words so we can publish it on line for you all to read. So here goes ………
At Blue Ocean Freedivers we already run the 7day AIDA Instructor course over 10 days, this is a very good course (I suppose I have to say that, but it is), but we felt that it was still missing out on something – TIME. Time to improve your own freediving, time to practice the extra skills like dynamic no fins, or variable weight, time to practice on real students (still fully supervised by me at all times) time to get ready to actually instruct real students for yourself, on your own, without anyone sat next to you. So we decided to offer internships of up to four weeks long, where we make time to do some of these things.
Timings of these courses are flexible and can normally be booked around your commitments. This year we already have confirmed an instructor intern program running from 30 November to 30 December which may fit your schedule. The added bonus of this program is that you may get to sample our famous Christmas dinner, it does mean sharing Christmas day with approx 30 people many of whom are Scuba divers! But don’t let that put you off.
The normal 10 day instructor course currently costs 900 euro. We decided that the price for the internship should be the same, but added the additional costs associated with the cost of taxis to the blue hole, the cost of using the dive center, as well as wear and tear on the equipment. So if you are the only student doing the course then we charge 10 euro per additional session (instead of 30 euro per session) to cover these costs. We do not charge you to help out with other courses that we may have running at the time.
We are very flexible on a weekly training schedule, subject to incoming bookings, but we do try to base it on three days in the water and then 1 day of rest, as a standard. This allows you to rest between sessions allowing you to get the best out of the sessions that we do.
We do expect that trainee instructors should have all of their own diving equipment so the instructor course cost, does not include equipment rental, (However we can rent you equipment for the period you are here). We will provide the use of the freediving buoys ropes and bottom weights and we will provide weights for you (due to the fact that your valuable luggage space could be packed with bacon or cheese and ham pasties for the instructor instead of lead weights).
As part of the instructor internship we spend two sessions practicing with underwater scooters, Yes we have really good underwater scooters, these are not baby scooters these are real scooters SUEX XJOY 14 that can take you through the water at 65m/min. We spend one session on the reef to enjoy some freediving away from a rope and once on the line, so you can see how they perform for depth freediving as well as how to use them for rescues. We utilise them in our competitions for deep safety, they are in all of the Blue Hole Dahab competitions that are organised by Blue Ocean Freedivers, look out for our future blogs on competitions.
We also include extra theory that is over and above the AIDA requirements. This includes sessions making a neck weight and lanyard as well as instruction on rope marking and equipment for deep freediving. We are even working on meditation sessions to be included in future courses.
I hope I have covered all of the questions that you may have about the instructor internship, if I haven’t please drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org if you need more information.
Well I have written the blog and don’t I feel any more popular than I was before I started writing this. But apparently I have to give it time. Well what are you still reading this for, if you have your AIDA 4* qualification, or equivalent and you want to have the skills to pass the beauty of freediving on to other people then write to us and see what we can sort out for you.
